Gradient-Based Predictive Pulse Pattern Control of Medium-Voltage Drives—Part II: Performance Assessment

In this article, the performance of gradient-based predictive pulse pattern control (GP $^{3}$ C) is evaluated for a medium-voltage variable-speed drive consisting three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter and induction machine. To end, real-time tests are performed in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environment, which, along with extensive simulation studies, elucidate potential gains achieved GP C. As shown, by manipulating offline-computed optimized patterns (OPPs) real time such that stator current machine follows precalculated optimal trajectory, superior steady-state transient can be achieved. Specifically, total demand distortion (TDD) significantly reduced compared established methods, as field-oriented (FOC) space vector modulation (SVM), while shorter settling times during transients Finally, to complete assessment method interest, implementation aspects discussed detail.
